The Wii Fit and other Wii Games: Who says getting fit can't be fun?

Gone are the days where you have to spend what seems like eternity running on a conveyor belt that takes you absolutely nowhere. If you're like me, and you don't like redundant exercises or hitting the gym where you are under the watchful eye of other people who are 10x more fit than you are and seem to have factory-built muscles, you can always just spring for a Wii and get yourself several exercise-intensive games.

There's the Wii Fit, of course, which, apart from giving you those routine step movements, also allows you to balance yourself on a beam, or hit soccer balls. A Wii Fit Factory Sealed Component will cost around $125.

The Wii Sports provides a lot of fun and exercise as well. Boxing is a total get fit program because it really works out both arms and if you're really into it you'll find yourself moving your legs and head as well, like you were Rocky or something.

If you want to get more creative, however, there are other Wii games guaranteed to make you sweat and flex minus the boredom:

Raving Rabbids
This is undeniably the sneakiest way a game has ever made me exert such physical effort. The games are nothing near "fitness-intensive". You've got burping games, snail races, chess, and rhythm games, but all of these require much shaking and moving that you are sure to sweat a lot... and have tons of fun in the process.

Cooking Mama
This isn't as strenuous as the above but when you're competing with your friend to chop or whisk the fastest, then it can help your arm muscles and give you a sweat as well.

Fit FactorY: Healthy "Fast Food"

In this fast-paced world we live in, it's hard not to go inside a fast food restaurant for a quick chow. Here are three simple ways to make sure that it does not go against your desire to stay fit and healthy:

1. Ditch the fancy drink
One of the easiest and most effective ways to cut down on calories and sugar is to drink water with your meal. If you find water too bland, you can improvise by placing a lemon slice inside your water. Or ordering hot tea sans the sugar.

2. Pay careful attention to those "add-ons"
You order your burger, and it usually comes with mayonnaise, ketchup, and/or mustard. Try asking them to lessen the condiments they put into the food, as these add-ons not only add flavor but also add a lot of calories, fat, and sodium.

3. Check the nutrition facts
Did you know that even fast food joint websites show their nutrition facts on the web? You can check out the nutrition facts of Wendy's and McDonald's, for instance, here:

Wendy's Nutrition Facts
McDonald's Nutrition Facts

So you can get a better idea of what to order and what not to order.

Probiotics - Getting the good bacteria in

Here's a counter-intuitive thought: Keep the bad bacteria out by getting the good bacteria in. All of us have most likely taken more than our fair share of those nasty, expensive antibiotics. They cure the illness you're complaining about, but introduce their fair share of side effects that mostly affect your stomach (eg. indigestion, flatulence, diarrhea). What's worse is that antibiotics kill all the bacteria in our body - including the good ones.

Probiotics is a way of refreshing your supply of good stomach microorganisms. They help boost your immune system, prevent infections, cure diarrhea, etc. Studies say that they can even lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

Fit Factory Image - YakultThe best thing about Probiotics is that they are safe. We actually have this in our body already. They can also be obtained through more natural means - such as eating yogurt or drinking yogurt milk (Yakult!!!). This makes integrating probiotics into your lifestyle an easy task.

About the Fit FactorY Blog

Hi everyone! This is my first post to my blog. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while now, but only had the time to set everything up today.

Fit FactorY is a blog about fitness and wellness primarily for the Generation Y.

I am just your ordinary Gen Y girl. Ideally, my job is an 8 to 5 one, but there are OT's to be had, so I end up going home much later, giving me little time and energy to cook myself a good, healthy meal.

None the less, I am on a quest for good health tips, vitamins, recipes, etc. that I can fit into my hectic lifestyle.

I've actually tried several vitamins, medicine, and health routines over the years, from oil pulling to drinking Colostrum capsules to trying out herbal medicine made from dried up barks and other queer things. I plan to talk about all these things in the posts to come.

Hope you guys have a good read!
